FAQs

What can a coach help me with?

If you have struggled with anything –doing something you have always wanted to do (following your
passion, starting your own business, standing up for yourself at work, running a 10K race, improving
your relationship with your canine partner in a dog sport, adopting a healthier lifestyle, or the like)
partnering with a coach could assist you in reaching your goals.
Through this process you gain clarity about what you are actually seeking, what barriers may be
holding you back, and awareness of untapped resources that are available to you. A coach strives to
understand how you see the world using targeted assessments, powerful questions, and focused
exercises. As your coach, I will help you use this knowledge to identify the most effective path to your
goal(s).

How does coaching differ from counselling or therapy?

The focus of coaching is on the future emphasizing personal-development, strengths, and self-
improvement. Counselling and therapy often focuses on the past zeroing in on the roots and causes of
mental health issues. Coaches do not diagnose or treat any illnesses.

What can I expect related to length of a session, location, and how long I will work with a coach?

Coaching sessions typically last from 30 to 55 minutes and can be held over the phone (most common),
face to face, or via Skype. Initially, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are scheduled that may transition to
every other week depending on your needs. Meeting at least twice per month is critical in creating
awareness and supporting the change process. The length of our work together will vary greatly
depending on your identified goal(s), but typically we will meet for several months to a year or more.
